Say No to Ron Newcomb: East Tennessee Deserves New Leadership
Governor Bill Lee will soon make an important decision affecting Sevier, Cocke, Grainger, and Jefferson Counties: who should serve as the next District Attorney General for Tennessee’s Fourth Judicial District?
Ron Newcomb wants the job.
Newcomb has spent nearly two decades working as a prosecutor under outgoing District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn. The No For Newcomb campaign believes his record raises serious questions about whether he should now be entrusted with leading the entire District Attorney General’s Office.
Nearly Two Decades Under Jimmy Dunn
Ron Newcomb began his career in the District Attorney General’s Office in 2008 and has spent years working under Jimmy Dunn.
For No For Newcomb, longevity alone does not demonstrate that someone is qualified to become the district’s chief prosecutor.
A District Attorney General exercises tremendous authority over criminal prosecutions. The person holding that office should demonstrate integrity, honesty, sound judgment, independence, accountability, and strong leadership.
The campaign believes Newcomb’s record should be carefully examined against those standards.
Ron Newcomb’s Record Deserves Scrutiny
The No For Newcomb campaign has raised numerous allegations concerning Newcomb’s conduct and leadership as a prosecutor.
According to allegations and records highlighted by the campaign:
— Grand jury proceedings have been improperly influenced by Newcomb.
— In-house investigators allegedly worked with Newcomb to hide evidence and coach witnesses.
— Newcomb allegedly retaliated against defendants because of conflicts involving their attorneys.
— Judges have reportedly requested that another prosecutor replace Newcomb in criminal cases.
— Newcomb has been accused of repeatedly violating his oath of office and damaging his credibility as a prosecutor.
These allegations are serious, particularly when they concern a public official seeking greater prosecutorial authority.
Allegations should not automatically be treated as criminal convictions or established judicial findings.
Residents should examine the underlying court orders, transcripts, pleadings, legal filings, and public records when evaluating these claims.
Why Grand Jury Proceedings Matter
Grand juries play an important role in Tennessee’s criminal justice system, and prosecutors can exercise substantial influence over the information presented during those proceedings.
That makes fairness, impartiality, and respect for the law essential.
When questions arise concerning a prosecutor’s conduct before a grand jury, citizens have every reason to examine those questions carefully—especially when that prosecutor is seeking promotion to become the district’s chief law-enforcement prosecutor.
The No For Newcomb campaign believes the controversies involving Newcomb deserve public scrutiny before Governor Lee makes his appointment.
The Fourth Judicial District Needs Strong Leadership
The next District Attorney General will serve communities throughout:
Sevier County • Cocke County • Grainger County • Jefferson County
Residents deserve a chief prosecutor who can command public confidence.
The next District Attorney General should demonstrate:
INTEGRITY — Decisions should be guided by the law and pursuit of justice.
HONESTY — The public, courts, crime victims, defendants, and attorneys should be able to trust the office.
ACCOUNTABILITY — Prosecutorial authority should never place government officials beyond meaningful scrutiny.
LEADERSHIP — The District Attorney General should establish professional standards that strengthen the entire office.
The No For Newcomb campaign does not believe Ron Newcomb meets those standards.
RON NEWCOMB IS NOT OUR GUY.
Is It Time for Someone New?
After nearly two decades working within the same administration, Newcomb now wants to take over the office.
Governor Lee therefore faces a larger decision than simply choosing Jimmy Dunn’s successor.
Should the Fourth Judicial District continue with leadership developed under the existing administration, or should East Tennessee get an opportunity for something new?
The No For Newcomb campaign believes the district needs new leadership, greater transparency, stronger accountability, and renewed public confidence.
