Ron Newcomb Wants to Become District Attorney General
Ron Newcomb has spent years working as a prosecutor under outgoing District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn. Now, Newcomb has applied to take over leadership of the office.
The District Attorney General holds tremendous authority over criminal prosecutions throughout the Fourth Judicial District. With that authority should come an equally significant responsibility to uphold constitutional rights, exercise independent judgment, maintain public confidence, and ensure that justice—not personal interests—guides prosecutorial decisions.
The No For Newcomb campaign believes the Fourth Judicial District deserves someone new.
Serious Allegations Surrounding Ron Newcomb
The campaign has raised numerous allegations concerning Newcomb’s conduct as a prosecutor.
According to allegations and materials published by No For Newcomb, Newcomb has been accused of conduct involving:
— Obstructing justice during grand jury proceedings
— Threatening witnesses with prosecution if they testified
— Coaching law enforcement officers and witnesses to provide a “different truth” at trial
— Burying evidence alleged to demonstrate the innocence of accused individuals
— Retaliating against perceived enemies
— Abusing his authority as a sworn prosecutor
— Violating his oath of office
— Contributing to employees leaving the District Attorney General’s Office
— Denying access to public records the campaign alleges document misconduct within the office
These are serious accusations involving a public official seeking greater prosecutorial authority.

The person selected will become the chief prosecutor responsible for criminal cases throughout the district.
That makes this appointment important not only to attorneys and government officials, but also to ordinary East Tennesseans whose families and communities depend upon a criminal justice system they can trust.
We Need Someone New
The Fourth Judicial District has an opportunity for new leadership.
Rather than continuing with leadership developed within the existing administration, the No For Newcomb campaign believes Governor Lee should appoint someone capable of bringing a new perspective, greater transparency, stronger accountability, and renewed public confidence to the District Attorney General’s Office.
