CLOSED DOORS FOR RON NEWCOMB: Tell Governor Lee NO FOR NEWCOMB!

  • Aug 13
  • 3 min read

Governor Bill Lee will soon make an important decision for residents of Cocke, Grainger, Jefferson, and Sevier Counties: who will serve as the next District Attorney General for Tennessee’s Fourth Judicial District?

Ron Newcomb wants the job.

Newcomb has asked Governor Lee to appoint him as the district’s next chief prosecutor. The No For Newcomb campaign believes his record raises serious questions about his qualifications, leadership, transparency, and use of prosecutorial authority.

Our position is clear:

CLOSED DOORS FOR RON NEWCOMB!

The Fourth Judicial District deserves a District Attorney General who can earn the trust of law enforcement, the courts, employees, crime victims, and the citizens the office serves.

The No For Newcomb campaign believes Ron Newcomb is NOT qualified for that responsibility.

Questions About Ron Newcomb's Record

Before Governor Lee makes his appointment, residents should closely examine Newcomb’s tenure within the District Attorney General’s Office.

According to allegations and claims raised by the campaign:

— Law enforcement officers have reportedly expressed concerns about working with Ron Newcomb and trusting his leadership.

— Other assistant district attorney generals have reportedly left the office after working with Newcomb.

— Newcomb has been accused of improperly interfering with the independence of grand jury proceedings.

— Newcomb has been accused of withholding public records that the campaign says contain evidence relevant to alleged misconduct.

— Newcomb has been accused of abusing his prosecutorial authority and violating his oath of office.

These are serious allegations involving someone seeking tremendous authority over criminal prosecutions throughout four East Tennessee counties.

Allegations should not automatically be treated as criminal convictions or final judicial findings of wrongdoing. Residents should examine the underlying court records, transcripts, legal filings, public records, and other available documentation when evaluating these claims.

Why Grand Jury Independence Matters

The campaign’s allegations involving grand jury proceedings deserve particular attention.

Grand juries perform an important function within Tennessee’s criminal justice system. Their independence is essential to maintaining confidence in that process.

Prosecutors wield considerable influence within the criminal justice system, making integrity and respect for lawful procedures particularly important.

If questions arise concerning whether a prosecutor improperly interfered with grand jury independence, those questions deserve careful examination—especially when that prosecutor is seeking appointment as the district’s chief prosecutor.

What Do the Public Records Show?

Transparency is essential when public officials exercise substantial government authority.

The No For Newcomb campaign has repeatedly raised concerns about public records it says have been withheld from disclosure.

That's why residents should examine the documentation themselves.

Don't rely solely on political statements from either side.

Read the records. Examine the evidence. Reach your own conclusions.

Another Jimmy Dunn — Or a New Direction?

Ron Newcomb has spent years working within the District Attorney General’s Office associated with outgoing District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn.

Now, Newcomb wants to replace him.

The No For Newcomb campaign believes appointing Newcomb would represent a continuation of the same leadership rather than an opportunity for meaningful change.

RON NEWCOMB IS MERELY ANOTHER JIMMY DUNN.

The Fourth Judicial District has an opportunity to move in a new direction.

Residents of Sevier County, Cocke County, Grainger County, and Jefferson County deserve leadership committed to:

Integrity. Accountability. Transparency. Fairness. Constitutional rights. Public trust.

WE NEED NEW LEADERSHIP — NOT MORE OF THE SAME.

Governor Lee Will Make the Decision

Governor Bill Lee will decide who becomes the next District Attorney General.

That makes the time before his appointment especially important for residents who want their opinions heard.
