Governor Bill Lee will soon make a decision that will affect the criminal justice system throughout Sevier, Cocke, Grainger, and Jefferson Counties.
Ron Newcomb wants to become the next District Attorney General for Tennessee’s Fourth Judicial District.
The No For Newcomb campaign believes the district deserves someone who is honest, trustworthy, accountable, and prepared to lead with integrity.
That person is NOT RON NEWCOMB.
A District Attorney General Must Earn Public Trust
A District Attorney General exercises tremendous prosecutorial authority. The office makes decisions that can profoundly affect defendants, crime victims, witnesses, law enforcement officers, families, and entire communities.
That authority demands more than prosecutorial experience.
Our next District Attorney General should demonstrate integrity, honesty, sound judgment, fairness, transparency, accountability, and strong leadership.
The No For Newcomb campaign believes Newcomb’s controversial record raises serious questions about whether he meets those standards.
Ron Newcomb’s Record Deserves Examination
According to allegations and records highlighted by No For Newcomb, concerns surrounding Newcomb’s conduct include:
— Improperly influencing grand jurors during grand jury proceedings.
— Working with in-house investigators who allegedly hid evidence and coached witnesses.
— Retaliating against defendants because Newcomb allegedly had conflicts involving their attorneys.
— Being replaced or removed from criminal cases at the request of judges.
— Repeatedly violating his oath of office and damaging his credibility as a prosecutor.
These are serious allegations involving an individual seeking one of the most powerful positions in East Tennessee’s criminal justice system.
They should not automatically be interpreted as criminal convictions or judicial findings of guilt. Residents should examine the underlying court orders, transcripts, legal pleadings, filings, and public records when evaluating these claims.
Why Leadership Matters
The District Attorney General does more than prosecute individual cases.
The person occupying the office establishes expectations for prosecutors and investigators throughout the district. Leadership influences how evidence is handled, how defendants and crime victims are treated, how prosecutors interact with law enforcement, and whether the public can trust the office to exercise its authority responsibly.
That is why the character and judgment of the next District Attorney General matter.
The Fourth Judicial District needs leadership capable of strengthening public confidence—not creating additional controversy.
