Governor Bill Lee will soon make a decision that will affect the criminal justice system throughout Sevier, Cocke, Grainger, and Jefferson Counties.
Ron Newcomb wants to replace Jimmy Dunn as District Attorney General for Tennessee's Fourth Judicial District.
Residents will not directly vote on this appointment. Governor Lee will select Dunn's replacement.
But that doesn't mean East Tennessee has to remain silent.
You Don't Get to Vote — But You Can Be Heard
The District Attorney General serves as the chief prosecutor for the Fourth Judicial District and exercises substantial authority over criminal prosecutions.
That makes the qualifications and record of the person selected extremely important.
The No For Newcomb campaign believes Newcomb's controversial record raises serious questions about whether he should be entrusted with leadership of the office.
Ron Newcomb's Record Deserves Examination
According to allegations raised by the No For Newcomb campaign, Newcomb has faced accusations involving:
— Hiding or destroying public records
— Violating his Oath of Office
— Colluding with other prosecutors to bury or manufacture evidence
— Arguing with judges
— Manipulating crime victims
— Manipulating law enforcement officers and witnesses
These are serious allegations involving an individual seeking one of the most powerful prosecutorial positions in East Tennessee.
Allegations should not automatically be treated as established facts, criminal convictions, or judicial findings of wrongdoing. Residents should examine the underlying court orders, legal pleadings, transcripts, public records, and other documentation when deciding what they believe.

A District Attorney General should demonstrate integrity, independence, sound judgment, transparency, accountability, and respect for constitutional rights.
